The 2017 edition of the HS Nomenclature includes 5,387 six-digit subheadings (compared to 5,205 in the 2012 edition).

This is the sixth edition of this global standard used by over 200 countries and Economic or Customs Unions for classifying goods in international trade. The 2017 Edition of the WCO Harmonized System Nomenclature (HS) entered into force on 1 January 2017. It shall enter into force on 1 January 2022. HS 2022, which is the seventh edition of the Harmonized System (HS) nomenclature, is used worldwide for the uniform classification of goods traded internationally, and has been accepted by all Contracting Parties to the Harmonized System Convention. The HS is governed by "The International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System", which was adopted in June 1983 and entered into force January 1988.
